A 64.1 cc farm saw — the biggest non-professional Stihl. It’ll swing a 20-inch bar through green doug fir without complaining. If you’re bucking anything larger than a cord a week, this or its Husqvarna counterpart are where you start.
The carb diaphragm is the single most common service item after about 300 tanks. The compensator/limiter spring under the chain brake handle rusts if the saw sits in an unheated shed through winter. The sprocket rim at 7 tooth wears faster than the standard 8 tooth because more chain passes through per revolution.
Diaphragm carb kit every 2–3 years. Sharpen chain at least every tank when bucking; a properly filed cutter lasts 5–7 sharpenings. Replace the bar when the groove has opened more than 0.010″ beyond spec.
