Safety

Treat the EGO Power+ ST1521S as a high-speed cutting tool, even though it uses line instead of a blade. Remove the 56V battery before installing line, clearing jams, adjusting the telescoping shaft, or carrying the trimmer through a gate or vehicle. Keep the guard installed; it sets the correct line length and reduces thrown debris. Use eye protection every time, and add hearing protection when trimming near walls, fences, or hardscape that reflects sound.

Unboxing & first run

Confirm the trimmer, guard, front handle, battery, charger, and manual pack are present before discarding packaging. Inspect the straight telescoping shaft for shipping damage, then lock the shaft at a comfortable length so the cutting head rests just above the ground with relaxed arms. Charge the battery fully before the first cut; a partial charge can make early runtime look worse than normal.

During the first run, listen for scraping, wobble, or sudden vibration. Stop immediately and recheck the head if the line feeds unevenly.

Controls layout

The ST1521S uses a straight-shaft layout with the battery at the rear, trigger and lockout at the main handle, front handle on the shaft, and Rapid Reload head at the cutting end. The telescoping shaft adjustment changes reach without changing the head angle, which helps maintain a flat cutting path along fences and beds. Keep both hands on the handles; the rear hand controls power while the forward hand stabilizes sweep speed.

Do not operate with loose collars or a missing guard.

Routine maintenance

Remove the battery before every inspection. Brush grass from the guard, head vents, and shaft after use, especially after edging or trimming damp weeds. The trimmer has no fuel mix, spark plug, or engine oil service; routine care is mostly cleaning, line condition, fastener checks, and battery storage. Store the tool dry, with the battery removed and the head off the floor if the area is dusty.

If vibration increases after a line change, stop and reload equal lengths from both sides.

Blade or chain replacement

This trimmer is not designed for a metal blade or chain. The service item at the cutting end is the Rapid Reload head, its internal spool path, and the trimmer line. Fitting brush blades, saw chains, cable, or non-approved adapters changes the load on the motor and can create thrown-object hazards. Replace the head only when the eyelets are worn through, the bump/feed action fails after cleaning, or the shell is cracked.

Do not defeat the guard to gain extra swath.

Sharpening or cleaning

There is nothing to sharpen on the ST1521S; cutting performance comes from fresh line and correct head speed. Cleaning matters more than filing. Grass fiber, clay, and melted nylon can collect around the head and reduce line feed. Remove the battery, turn the trimmer head upward, and clear wrapped material by hand or with a plastic scraper. Avoid metal picks near the head eyelets unless needed for packed debris.

Replace brittle line instead of trying to revive it.

Troubleshooting

Most trimmer faults come from battery state, line feed, or debris around the head. Start with the battery removed, then inspect the head before assuming motor failure. If the tool stops under load, allow it to cool and resume with shorter passes. Thick weeds should be cut from the top down so the line does not wrap at the hub.

Stop using any cracked head immediately.

Compatible parts

Use parts that match the ST1521S head size, voltage platform, and line diameter. The key consumable is 0.095″ twist trimmer line; thinner line can feed too quickly, while heavier line can overload the motor and reduce runtime. Keep a spare head available if the trimmer is used commercially or around masonry, where eyelets wear faster. Eye protection should be treated as a required operating part, not an accessory.

Do not mix parts intended for curved-shaft or smaller-line trimmers.
