128LD / MANUAL

Safety

The Husqvarna 128LD string trimmer is lighter than a brushcutter, but the line tip can throw stones, wire, glass, and bark at high speed. Clear the work zone before starting and keep people, pets, vehicles, and windows outside the debris path. The unit has a 28 cc two-stroke engine, straight detachable shaft, and 17″ cutting swath; use it with both hands and the guard installed. Do not operate with a cracked head, missing shield, or improvised line.

Unboxing & first run

Check the powerhead, detachable shaft, guard, handle, T35 Tap-and-Go head, hardware, tool, and paperwork before assembly. The 128LD weighs about 11 lb dry and uses a 14 fl oz fuel tank, so balance depends on handle position and attachment length. Assemble the shaft coupler fully until the lock button seats. Install the guard before fitting line, then confirm the head rotates freely without striking the shield.

Controls layout

The 128LD control layout is simple enough for trimming and edging changes in the yard. The rear engine housing carries the starter, choke, purge bulb, air-filter cover, fuel cap, and stop switch. The throttle trigger and lockout sit on the handle grip, while the loop handle on the shaft sets the support position. The detachable shaft coupler allows approved attachments, but it must lock positively before use.

Routine maintenance

Routine maintenance keeps the 128LD starting easily and prevents vibration from the head or shaft. Clean the unit after use, especially around the guard, gearbox area, cooling slots, and starter housing. Grass wrap around the head can overheat the bearing area and reduce speed. Do not wash the engine with a hose; use a brush and damp cloth after the unit cools. Store with the tank empty if it will sit for more than a few weeks.

Blade or chain replacement

This trimmer normally uses flexible line rather than a blade or chain. For the listed configuration, replace the spool line or the complete T35 Tap-and-Go head when feeding becomes unreliable, eyelets are worn, or the housing is cracked. Do not install chain-flail heads or unsupported metal blades. The detachable shaft system accepts attachments, but each attachment must match the powerhead rating, guard, and handle requirements.

Sharpening or cleaning

There is no chain to sharpen on the 128LD; cutting quality depends on fresh line, correct length, and a clean head. Old line becomes brittle and breaks close to the eyelet, especially after sun exposure. Soak dry nylon line briefly before loading if it has been stored open. Clean the head whenever bump feed becomes inconsistent or vibration appears. Keep the line cutter on the guard sharp enough to trim excess line.

Troubleshooting

Most 128LD problems are caused by old fuel, dirty air flow, worn line, or grass wrap. Start with visible checks before adjusting the carburetor. If the engine starts but will not accelerate, confirm the choke is open, the air filter is clean, and the head is not jammed. If vibration changes suddenly, stop immediately and inspect the spool, line balance, shaft coupler, and attachment lock.

Compatible parts

Use parts that preserve the designed head speed, guard coverage, and fuel-air setup. The listed 128LD uses a T35 Tap-and-Go trimmer head with 0.095″ twist line and a 17″ cutting swath. For filters and primer parts, match by model code and engine family. Avoid oversized line because it slows the head, raises clutch load, and can leave the line cutter unable to control length.

Keep spare line, a clean air filter, and a primer bulb in the maintenance kit for seasonal trimming starts.
